Goalkeeper Nick Rimando of Real Salt Lake was named the Major League Soccer Player of the Month for March, beating out teammate Javier Morales in voting by members of the North American Soccer Reporters.

Rimando took 11 of 25 first-place votes, after helping RSL win both its league games during the month — one, by making 10 saves in a howling rainstorm to preserve a 0-0 draw on the road against the San Jose Earthquakes.

Morales received seven first-place votes.

Rimando also shut out Saprissa of Costa Rica in the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions League semifinal series at Rio Tinto Stadium. He's the first goalkeeper in league history to win the award three times.
