Logan • It's been almost too easy for Utah State this season in the Western Athletic Conference.

The 11-0 league record jumps at you. The 22-2 record, the No. 17 national ranking and several winning streaks are all highlights.

But winning a conference championship in early February? That's almost unheard of.

Yet, if the Aggies defeat Idaho on Wednesday night they will claim at least a share of a fourth consecutive WAC title. It goes to show how dominant USU's been this season. It also goes to show how little worthy competition the Aggies have had.

"If everyone on this team brings it every night, then we can be a great team," senior guard Tyler Newbold said. "But we have to bring it consistently every night."

Beating the Vandals won't be easy. Don Verlin coached for years under Stew Morrill, and if anyone knows the Aggie system, he would be the one. In addition, Idaho's point guard, Deremy Geiger, played at Utah State as a freshman before leaving the Aggies due to academic issues.

It makes for an interesting and unique matchup. The Utah State players usually have the benefit of the system to their advantage. That may not be the case on Wednesday, in a game that will be nationally televised by ESPN2. As such, there's at least the possibility that USU may have to freelance, if just a little, in order to be effective offensively.

"They pose a lot of challenges," Newbold said. "They'll give a lot of different looks that other teams won't. They understand what we're trying to do. It's really important to make basketball plays when a set breaks down." —
