Ogden • Weber State announced Friday that Robert L. and Annette Marquardt have donated $1 million to the football program.
According to athletic director Jerry Bovee, the donation will be used to enhance budgets for recruiting and coaches' salaries, locker room renovations, improvements to Stewart Stadium and a football student-athlete scholarship endowment.
'The first phase of the stadium improvement, scheduled for 2011, will include the installation of artificial turf and the resurfacing of the running track.
'"The Marquardts have been longtime supporters of Weber State University and Wildcat athletics," Bovee said. "This generous gift demonstrates their leadership and vision for our program."
Said football coach Ron McBride: "Since I arrived for the 2005 season, we have worked hard to take the Weber State football program to the next level. By stepping forward and making this gift, Bob and Annette have established some key elements that elevate our ability to compete in the Big Sky Conference and the [postseason] playoffs."
