The high school girls' soccer playoffs get under way Tuesday, with defending champs likely to make a strong showing throughout the classifications.
In 5A, Alta finished second in its region to rival Brighton, but will kick off its pursuit of a fifth straight title with Weber.
4A Timpanogos stands at 12-1 and opens with Mountain Crest from Region 5.
Alta's quest for a five-fecta likely will have to run through Brighton. The teams drew in their first meeting this season and Brighton won the second. The Bengals have not lost this season but were tied three times.
5A and 4A get under way Tuesday, with first-round games played at home sites. The second round is Friday, while the semifinals will be played Oct. 19 at Juan Diego High School in Draper. The championship games will be played at Rio Tinto Stadium on Oct. 22.
Juan Diego, the defending 3A champion, could repeat, but Park City appears to be the favorite. 3A and 2A play Wednesday and Saturday, with semifinals Oct. 22 at Woods Cross High School and the Oct. 23 championship games at Rio Tinto.
