Sandy •Â Goalkeeper Nick Rimando makes most of the saves for Real Salt Lake. But he had some teammates to thank for helping him post his 11th shutout of the season in a 1-0 victory over the New York Red Bulls on Saturday night.
Midfielder Andy Williams and Kyle Beckerman cleared dangerous balls off the line when Rimando couldn't get to them, helping preserve the win that extended their home unbeaten streak to a league-record 22 games.
"Credit to the guys that were alert to make plays on the goal line, for sure," coach Jason Kreis said.
The 11th shutout of the season for RSL nudged its goals-against average down to 0.70 on pace to break the league record for a season.
Allowing a league-low 16 goals in 23 league games so far shows just how much attention the highest-scoring team in the league pays to defense, which has allowed just five goals in its past 13 games, and none in the past three.
"We get our opportunities from playing good defense," Rimando said. "That's why we're scoring so many goals this year, because we all defend, and we attack when we play good defense. Those shutouts, they come from that whole team."
Already, Rimando has equalled the 11 shutouts he recorded for D.C. United in 2005, and he's building another shutout streak to rival the 567-minute streak that he set earlier this season, with a 339-minute streak that ranks as the third-longest in team history.

On record pace
• RSL can set the league record for fewest goals allowed if it concedes six or fewer in its remaining seven regular-season games.
• The league record is 23 goals allowed in 30 games by the Houston Dynamo in 2007.
