Springville • It wasn't graceful. In fact, Springville's Ryan Swanson, a 6-foot-2, 245-pound defensive lineman, almost tripped twice as he charged downfield for the Red Devils' fourth touchdown late in the third quarter.
But Swanson didn't even notice his stumbles.
"I was just thinking, 'Run as hard as you can. Just run it down and score,' " Swanson said.
Indeed, Swanson held his ground to lumber 91-yards for a touchdown after picking up a Bruins' fumble the perfect show of dominance in Springville's 42-0 rout of Mountain View on Friday night.
And for the second game in a row, Springville held its opponent scoreless. This time, the Red Devils allowed the Bruins in the red zone only once midway through the third quarter before pushing them back to the 30-yard-line and forcing the fumble which Swanson returned for the score.
But was coach Scott Mitchell satisfied?
"No, not yet," he said. "We're making progress, but it's going to be interesting to see where we broke down on the game film."
It will be more difficult to nitpick Springville's offense.
Quarterback Steven Bate threw a near-perfect game, completing 14 of his 18 passes for 285 yards and five touchdowns.
His prime target was Jaylon Miyasaki, who caught four touchdown passes for 216 yards all in the first half.
But no play better illustrated the duo's efficiency than a second-quarter, three-play drive that started with a touchback and ended with Miyasaki's 67-yard touchdown reception.
"We just played together for so long that we just know each other's pace," Miyasaki said.
