After going 0-9 last season, the Northridge Knights have started this season with a 2-0 record, something most considered impossible.
After demolishing Sky View last week, the Knights proved that they could play with 5A teams as well as they defeated Syracuse 27-12 in their Region 1 opener.
"It felt good because we got a win," coach Erik Thompson said. "The challenge this year is to just forget about wins. We went 0-9 last year so to hell with winning, we are just going to play hard and have fun."
The Knights definitely looked like they were having fun as they came out strong and took a 17-6 lead in the first half.
Despite suffering several penalties in the first half, the Knights managed to find the end zone twice behind running back Brock Johnson and quarterback Trent Buckley, who combined for 152 yards of offense and two touchdowns.
Johnson wasn't done as he would score another touchdown and rush for over 125 yards on the night.
"The line really got us going tonight," Johnson said. "I can't explain how hard the lineman work and how good they are; I give them credit for my success."
The Knights didn't just get help from their own offense but from Syracuse's as well.
Titan quarterback Tyler Jacobsen threw four interceptions, all of which were caught by Northridge safety Austin Gottschalk.
