If all goes well Saturday at Rio Tinto Stadium, the Guinness Book of World Records should have a new entry. The Boy Scouts of America and Taber Extensions have joined forces for the "World's Longest Pinewood Derby Race."

Competitors will send the tiny, wood-carved race cars down a track that will be more than 340 feet long. Races are expected to last between 20 and 30 seconds.

"This track will be certified by the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest and fastest ever constructed," said Mike Plowman, Field Director of the Utah National Parks Council, Boy Scouts of America.

Racing is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and will continue to 5 p.m. Admission is free and the Pinewood Derby portion of the event is open to all boys, girls and adults with a regulation car. A $15 race entry fee will include a commemorative patch and a ticket to one of four upcoming Real Salt Lake home contests.

Registration is available in advance online at http://www.utahscouts.org/pinewoodderby or at the stadium on Saturday.

Carved out of wood, cars may not exceed 7 inches in length.
