The 1300 South bridge, located between 500 and 700 West, will be closed for about one year beginning this summer as part of the overhaul of the east-west thoroughfare.
Salt Lake City, in partnership with the Utah Department of Transportation, will host a public open house on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Sorenson Unity Center, 1383 S. 900 West, to discuss and answer questions about the 1300 South project. The open house will cover how the closure will impact motorized transportation, public transportation, pedestrians, cyclists and local businesses.
"This is a great opportunity to address any concerns our residents might have and share details of the work we have scheduled," said John Coyle, Salt Lake City's right-of-way manager. "We want to get the word out that the bridge will be closed during construction and recognize that a lot of people will have questions about the project."
The bridge will undergo major rehabilitation, including a full deck replacement. The project includes widening the bridge deck three feet, making structural and seismic enhancements, improving pedestrian and bicycle safety and upgrading the intersection/signals at the 1300 S. 700 West intersection.
