Utah will lose its top Democrat at the end of the year when House Minority Leader Jennifer Seelig ends her eight-year tenure in the body. On Thursday, she announced she won't seek re-election.

Seelig, who represents District 23 in the Rose Park area, said she plans to finish her doctoral dissertation, the last step in earning a Ph.D. in political science.
