Air-quality activists are holding a town hall gathering on Saturday in North Salt Lake to discuss how to shut down a controversial medical-waste incinerator.
The Stericycle facility is surrounded by subdivisions and accepts waste from seven states, including some that discourage incineration, which is no longer viewed as the best way to dispose of these materials.
State regulators have recently cited Stericyle for releasing excessive amounts of pollutants and record-keeping violations.
The gathering includes celebrity activist Erin Brockovich and her team of environmental investigators.
The group Communities for Clean Air will host the town hall at 2 p.m. at Foxboro Elementary School, 587 N. Foxboro Drive, followed by a march through the neighborhood to the plant.
