Salt Lake County will begin work Monday on a monthlong project to install about 1,100 feet of curb, gutter and sidewalk on 900 East between 4125 South and 4500 South.
The $200,000 project also will result in construction of ramps compliant with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards at all four corners of the intersection of 4500 South and 900 East, said Patrick Leary, the county's township executive.
His office, created by County Mayor Ben McAdams to pay closer attention to the needs of the unincorporated county, pursued funding for the project along with County Councilman Sam Granato after residents expressed concern about pedestrian safety along that busy street.
"When public safety is an issue we must act quickly to ensure our communities maintain an excellent quality of life," Leary said.
Responded Millcreek Community Council Chairwoman Diane Angus: "We are thrilled to have the county respond to these concerns so quickly."
Leary said the projected completion date is Oct. 1.
