Here are upcoming meet-the-candidates events. The primary election for mayor and council member seats is Aug. 13, with early voting beginning July 30. The general election is Nov. 5.

Salt Lake City Council District 1 • 7-8:40 p.m., Aug. 8, Day-Riverside Library, 1575 W. 1000 North.

Salt Lake City Council District 3 • 8 p.m., Aug. 7, Sweet Library, 9th Avenue and F Street.

Salt Lake City Council District 7 • 6 p.m. Aug. 7, Sprague Library, 2131 S. 1100 East. The Sugar House Community Council will hold a formal meeting at 7 p.m. and at about 8 p.m., each candidate will make brief remarks and answer questions.

South Jordan Mayor and City Council District 5 • 6-8 p.m., Aug. 8, South Jordan Community Center at 10778 S. Redwood Rd.

West Valley City • 6:30 p.m. Aug. 8, West Valley Library, 2880 W. 3650 South. Seats up for election are mayor, one at-large council member and council members for Districts 2 and 4.
