While construction on Utah highways will be suspended over the Fourth of July holiday and through the weekend, the Utah Department of Transportation is warning that some travel snags are possible in spots — so drivers should plan ahead.
The Freedom Festival in Utah County prompted one travel warning. Because of expected heavy traffic to its Stadium of Fire show at Brigham Young University, UDOT is encouraging drivers to avoid travel in that area on Thursday between 5:30 and 8:30 p.m. if possible, and to allow extra time if they do travel then.
UDOT also warns that Interstate 15 in Box Elder County is restricted to one lane in each direction between the Idaho border and SR-30, about 5 miles north of Tremonton. It is closed because of a project to strengthen pavement by installing metal reinforcing bars. Lanes remain closed to allow concrete to reach full strength before being opened to traffic.
Also, while all lanes will remain open on Interstate 80 in Parleys Canyon, crews have shifted and narrowed lanes to install a new drainage pipe. The speed limit in the construction zone has been lowered to 55 mph.
Lanes have also been narrowed to 11 feet on I-15 between Payson and Spanish Fork to accommodate construction of additional lanes in the freeway median.
