Gov. Gary Herbert has nominated Debbie Cragun to be his new executive director for the Department of Human Resource Management.

Cragun, who replaces Jeff Herring, was the acting director and had worked in the department as a human resource director since 2006. She has worked at the department since 1995.

Cragun would be the fifth woman in Herbert's 22-member Cabinet.

"As someone who started at ground level and worked through the ranks with talent and drive, Debbie epitomizes the dedicated public servant who has built a meaningful career with the state of Utah," Herbert said in a statement. "With her ability to build relationships and empower employees to succeed, I have every confidence that she will do an outstanding job."

The position still must be confirmed by the Senate.

Cragun earned her bachelor's degree in business management and her master's in organizational management from the University of Phoenix.

"The state's employees are its greatest asset, and I look forward to working with the governor, members of his Cabinet and departments in assuring the state has the highest quality workforce now and into the future," Cragun said.
