Gov. Gary Herbert appointed former state Rep. Todd Kiser, R-Sandy, as the new commissioner of the Utah Insurance Department, one of several appointments announced Thursday.
"With his professional expertise and legislative experience, Todd will provide the right balance of technical understanding and policy insight," Herbert said in a statement.
Kiser, who is president of Kiser-Lord Insurance Agency, is leaving the Legislature after five terms in office. He will replace Neal Gooch, who is retiring mid-January from the Cabinet-level position.
Herbert also appointed Robert Pero to serve on the Utah State Tax Commission. Pero will resign his post as Carbon County clerk-auditor. The governor appointed Thad LeVar and David R. Clark to fill two vacancies on the Utah Public Service Commission.
LeVar is the deputy director at the Utah Department of Commerce. Clark has been the legal counsel to the Public Service Commission since 2010. The PSC sets rates and oversees publicly regulated utility services.
