In the end, Democrat Ben McAdams padded his lead over Republican Mark Crockett by another 1,000 votes when Tuesday's general-election canvass verified he is Salt Lake County's next mayor.

The 37-year-old McAdams picked up 19,782 of the 38,557 ballots added into the Election Day tabulations for the mayoral race. That was 1,007 more than Crockett added to his total, although the GOP challenger did cut a little into McAdams' percentage of the vote, which slipped to 54.5 percent from 54.9 percent on Nov. 6.

On Jan. 7, McAdams will replace fellow Democrat Peter Corroon as mayor and inherit a budget of close to $800 million. As is customary in a transition of administrations, the council voted Tuesday to pay him a portion of the county mayor's annual salary — about $8,400 — for participating in county activities the rest of this year.

Like the mayoral election, the outcome of four races involving county council seats changed only slightly with the updated results from County Clerk Sherrie Swensen.

Incumbent District 6 Councilman Max Burdick, a Republican, expanded his lead over Demoract Paul Recanzone by 2,100 votes. Otherwise, the margins of victory changed by 1,000 in Republican incumbent Michael Jensen's victory over Brent Goodfellow in District 2, by 500 in at-large Democratic council Jim Bradley's win over Joseph Demma and by just 150 in District 4, where Democrat Sam Granato beat Missy Wilson Larsen for the seat being vacated by Jani Iwamoto.

The council also awarded Granato a partial salary for the rest of the year. His amounts to about $2,400, said county chief financial officer Darrin Casper.

Tuesday's canvass showed that the proposal to issue a $47 million bond for county parks and trails increased its final margin of victory to 43,177 votes (56.1 percent), while the Millcreek incorporation proposal lost by 4,953 votes, about 300 more than on Election Day.
