Apple Valley disincorporation vote fails

A vote to disincorporate Apple Valley has failed, preventing a dissolution of the tiny southern Utah town.

The vote, held Tuesday for about 370 registered voters, came back with 115 in favor of dissolution and 167 against.

Eighteen provisional ballots were not counted as of Wednesday, but Town Clerk Nathan Bronemann said they would have little impact on the vote’s outcome.

"Even if those went yes, it would still be a 30-vote spread," Bronemann said.

Citizens of Apple Valley, initially incorporated as a city in 2004, asked for a disincorporation vote in April, citing a lack of services provided by the city, including a reliable water system and a fire department.
