Utah County is clearing the path for FrontRunner to come to Provo.

The Utah County Commission recently authorized the sale of $52 million in sales tax revenue bonds, which will be used to reimburse the Utah Transit Authority for sales tax revenue the county put toward road construction in 2006.

In an earlier interview, UTA spokesman Gerry Carpenter said with sales tax revenue slipping, the authority needed to have the county’s loan paid off so it could continue the Utah County extension of the commuter rail system.

With the money, FrontRunner will begin operating in Provo in December. The system currently runs from Salt Lake City to Ogden.

Commission Chairman Larry Ellertson said the county will finalize the sale Tuesday.
