The $17 cost to register a snowmobile in state parks may soon rise to $25. The Senate passed SB15, 27-0, to allow the hike and sent it to the House.

Sponsoring Sen. Ralph Okerlund, R-Monroe, said grooming of trails for increasing numbers of snowmobiles has taken up more of the parks' budget in recent years. His bill would allow state parks to raise registration fees up to $25 to help cover those costs.

He said state parks groom more than 1,200 miles of trails.
