Gov. Gary Herbert issued the formal proclamation calling the Utah Legislature into special session next week, primarily to adopt the newly drawn maps for legislative and congressional districts.

The special session, which is scheduled to convene Monday, will include a few other issues, which Herbert said were "technical and cleanup amendments to state law."

Members of the legislative redistricting committee plan to meet Thursday to adopt final versions of the map that will be considered next week.

Members of the Legislature can recommend amendments during the special session.

House Speaker Becky Lockhart, R-Provo, said she expects the redistricting special session to be wrapped up in three days.

In addition to redistricting, legislators plan to make a technical fix to a bill passed last session that was aimed at closing a loophole that allowed some construction companies to avoid paying for workers compensation insurance.

They will redefine the requirements for "rural" members of the Board of Regents after it was discovered that an appointee from Nephi didn't qualify under the current definition.

And the state must change its procedures for conducting primaries so presidential candidates can be included on the June primary ballot, since the state does not currently plan to have a special presidential primary.
