You barely have to leave St. George for this desert hike as the trails are part of the Red Cliffs Desert Reserve.
From the trail head, follow the Chuckwalla trail as it winds northwest. At about nine-tenths of a mile, you’ll reach a junction. If you want to hike a loop, follow the signs for the Halfway Wash trail. You’ll immediately descend through the wash then ascend and follow the trail southwest.
