Where • Powderhorn II at Solitude Mountain Resort

Type • Fixed-grip Quad

Vertical rise • 1,116 feet

Number of runs • 6

Difficulty rating • Better intermediate to advanced

Why try it • Great for doing laps on powder days

The ride • The quickest way to get here is to take Moonbeam Express, then drop down off its hill to the Powderhorn loading terminal. If your original starting point was Eagle Express, Powderhorn can be reach by skiing down Gary's Glade, an intermediate run, or Rhapsody, whose extra steepness and more abundant rock outcrops makes it an expert slope. It is a 7-minute ride to the top of Powderhorn.

Runs to try:

Eagle Ridge • This can be a fairly speedy traverse as you look for a dropoff point to head down almost anywhere along the ridge, but if it looks like too much for you, Eagle Ridge will take you back to blue runs off Eagle Express.

Diamond Lane • A fun high-speed cruiser with the added excitement of a steeper descent being thrown into the mix as the run does a little dogleg left as it funnels back into the bottom of the drainage.

Vertigo • Coming down Eagle Ridge, bounce off just after the second stand of trees, and an open apron of snow awaits. Three quarters of the way down, you have to pick a way through rocks, which in this case is an appealing challenge.
