Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort has retained Lofty Peaks Snowmobiling to lead snowmobile tours this winter of the resort’s sidecountry in American Fork Canyon.
Lofty Peaks will be based near the bottom of Mineral Basin Express chairlift, which can be reached by taking the Tram to Hidden Peak. Three types of passes are available: One provides skiing at the resort plus a two-hour snowmobile ride; the other two do not include skiing but offer either two- or three-hour snowmobile trips.

Rates are $129 for a two-hour snowmobile ride, $159 for a three-hour ride and $179 for a two-hour ride and an all-day lift ticket for skiing.
"New, powerful snowmobiles make it easy for beginners and experts to enjoy the ride as panoramic views from the peaks, forests of aspen and fir and open meadows greet you at every turn," said Lofty Peaks manager Kennie Garcia.
Snowmobile drivers must be at least 16 years old. Passengers should be 4 or older, Garcia said. Helmets and transceivers are provided.
Rental clothing costs $5 for a suit, $3 for boots or gloves and all three for $10. Information is available at www.loftypeaks.com/snowmobiling/snowbird-snowmobile-rental.
