NAO headlamp with Reactive Lighting from Petzl Petzl has been leading the way for new developments in the headlamp world by providing rechargeable batteries and now with extending battery life with Reactive Lighting Technology. The NAO, available in July 2012, for $175, detects incoming light and adjusts the intensity of the beam from seven to 355 lumens. During a night test run on the snowshoe trails at Solitude Mountain Resort the NAO dimmed down while people were walking with their heads down but instantly brightened when heads were lifted to look at things in the distance. The idea, of course, is to only provide what light is needed and preserve battery life. The NAO comes pre-programmed based on research, but it can also be designed for personal preferences. The Lithium-Ion battery is rechargeable. The headlamp makes sense for anyone frequently using headlamps. www.petzl.com
