Wasatch Adaptive Sports at Utah’s Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort has been picked as one of four partner organizations for a new program being implemented by The Sierra Club and Military Families Outdoors.
The Sierra Club has been organizing outdoor trips for military service members and their families for six years. The environmental group is now working with the University of Michigan on a research project to measure how the trips affect veterans’ mental health.

Research has long shown a strong link between mental and health benefits of getting outdoors, but The Sierra Club wants to know if its program provide the same results.
The project will take about 18 months to complete, but started last fall when the surveys were written and tested. The veterans excursions begin in March and include fly fishing, kayaking, whitewater rafting and paddling. There are courses specifically for female veterans and one for military spouses, partners or caregivers.
