It seems a funny connection at first, but ends up making perfect sense upon reflection.

"Snowbasin has been the U.S. home to the Australian Women’s Aerial Ski Team, also known as ‘The Flying Kangaroos,’ since 2003, and it only seems natural to honor one of their star athletes’ hard work with having Lydia’s name and flag on one of our gondola cabins," Snowbasin spokesman Jason Dyer said in a news release.
Lassila hopes to return to international competition spotlight in 2012 after becoming a mother.
She and the rest of the team have returned to Snowbasin and the Utah Olympic Training Center.
"I am so thrilled that Snowbasin has chosen to recognize me. I look forward to being at Snowbasin, meeting all of our many friends in the community, and just cannot wait to put my skis on and head out skiing," Lassila said.
Lassila is not the first to be honored with a dedicated gondola cabin. Alisa Camplin, the 2002 Winter Olympic gold medalist Australian, shares this honor.
