The latest poll ("Utah's OK with armed teachers," Sept. 23) illustrates a segment of society obsessed with guns and a cavalier opinion of those who aren't. I do understand the obsession. I was almost 7 before I hung up my "Fanner 50" for the last time.

Two things I believe to be true about these pretend gunslingers. They have never had the barrel of a gun pointed at them in anger and, under pressure, couldn't hit the broad side of a barn at 30 feet if their life depended on it. That makes them more dangerous than any "bad guy."

Regarding this poll, have many polled were parents of young children?
