I have been reading the Sunday edition of the Salt Lake Tribune for a number of years, and over the past five years I have noticed the Tribune reporting some questionable behavior of our past attorney general, Mark Shurtleff, and Shurtleff's influential endorsement of his successor, John Swallow. The behavior displayed by Mark Shurtleff and John Swallow became more bold and suspect as time went on. Their behavior gave me the impression the Utah state attorney general does not answer to anyone.
Shame on me, the Department of Justice, the Utah State Legislature, the Utah State Bar, the Utah Attorney General's Office and Utah state leadership for allowing questionable patterns of unlawful conduct to continue for so long. This inaction creates a concern that this scandal may reach deep into the Utah state community.
However, I would like to thank the Tribune journalists for being tenacious in bringing these issues to light. In addition, I would like to thank the bold, ethical men and women such as former director of the Utah Division of Consumer Protection Traci Gundersen, Davis County Attorney Troy Rawlings, Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill and the many good people of Utah who have stepped up to say The Buck Stops Here.
