Republican legislator Mike Kennedy is opposed to Gov. Gary Herbert's plan to help 111,000 Utahns obtain health insurance because he thinks health care may be bad for them ("Guv must win GOP support for Healthy Utah plan," Sept. 22).

Speaking as (if) an expert, Kennedy, who reportedly is a "family physician," made this unique (I hope) contribution to the health care debate: "Sometimes access to health care can be damaging and dangerous."

No doubt Rep. Kennedy and his family reject health insurance for themselves. Otherwise, Kennedy would be hypocritical as well as heartless. The real story here is that Republican lawmakers are not just willing but also proud to serve as a "death panel."
