I ask the lawmakers and residents of Salt Lake City to recall the many times that they've seen malfunctioning residential and city sprinkler systems gushing water onto the concrete, or functioning ones operating unnecessarily on a rainy day.

It is these recurring instances that prove we can conserve significantly more of our water resources by simply improving our water management practices. Conservation of our most precious resource should be an innate no-brainer but, unfortunately, increased water rates seems to be the only solution to persuade the citizens of Salt Lake City to take this matter seriously.
