As a diehard Ute fan and long-time Utah tailgater, I think Gordon Monson missed a great opportunity when addressing the recent arrest of former BYU quarterback Max Hall. This is truly a sad situation and any real Utah fan does feel for him. We wish Max the best and hope he gets the help he needs.
Most people understand the consequences of drug abuse and shoplifting. Rather than dwell on the seriousness of these issues and how people shouldn't make fun of Max Hall, Monson should have used this opportunity to teach this lesson: "what goes around, comes around."
It's important everyone realize words can be very hurtful. It's very easy to say things in the "heat of the moment" without thinking how it will affect others. No one knows what the future will bring, so it's best to be mindful and respectful of others, even if you're bitter rivals.
Everyone must learn from this sad situation. As a bleeding red Ute fan, this is the real message: As a "classless" Utah fan, Mr. Monson, you missed the mark on this one.
