A few weeks ago, I was approached by two nicely dressed, polite missionaries who stopped by my condo to visit. I invited them in and, after a few minutes of cordial chitchat, I was asked, "Are you a member of the church?"
My answer is always, "Yes." I do belong to a church, specifically the Roman Catholic Church. I know what they really want to know is if I belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I cannot imagine why missionaries do not just ask that specific question.
This is a bit of a problem for me, because the missionaries are suggesting that the Catholic Church is just another also-ran church and I have, for 92 years, been duped for my beliefs.
So I offer a suggestion to my many wonderful LDS friends, acquaintances and to all the LDS missionaries who do their work so diligently. Please just ask if I am a member of the LDS Church. I will reply that I am not, and there will be no confusion.
