A contributor to the disenfranchisement that resulted in Ferguson residents taking to the streets may be self inflicted. Unrepresentative election results are most likely due to poor local voter turnout, which in 2013 was a mere 2 percent among the two thirds of the town population who are African American.
What lesson can Ferguson teach Utahns about one-sided results of not voting and letting others choose for us? Are you planning to vote this November? Will you get your neighbors to join you?
