Letter: Let Israel wage war without U.S. aid
First Published Aug 18 2014 04:36 pm • Last Updated Aug 18 2014 04:36 pm

Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu has rejected Secretary of State John Kerry’s peace-making efforts as unwanted and unwelcome, as he is free to do.

Israel has been provoked and has a right to defend itself and retaliate, but a long-established principle of "just war" is proportionality. Inflicting casualties at a rate of 100 for one grossly fails to meet this standard and amounts to reprisal against an entire population. Our military aid makes us complicit in what, by any objective standard, are war crimes.

Netanyahu is free to choose war, but let him do so without our annual $3 billion in military aid.
