When I read in The Tribune that vandals in the Lake Mountains of Utah County had painted a dozen or more targets for large-caliber shooting near 1,000-year-old Fremont Indian rock art, I felt a surge of anger, all too familiar in the wake of the grinning Goblin topplers, at this latest example of thoughtless imbecility.

I would not wish to suggest that everyone who owns a gun is stupid. I am, however, alarmed time and again by the number of stupid people who seem to own guns.
