As I read Ashley Simmons’ letter ("I would save my dogs over your children," June 30), I initially assumed she had given us a clever spoof, and I remembered a satirical quote that humorously made fun of W. C. Fields: "Any man who hates babies and dogs can’t be all bad."
I still wonder if she was being sarcastic about the response of several people about a recent killing of a dog by a policeman who was looking for a toddler. If she was, thanks – we sure needed that. If, however, the letter really expresses her concept of morality and value structure, I certainly am glad that my grandkids don’t live near her.
