Letter: Boehner not a scientist, but he can cash checks
First Published Jun 11 2014 04:24 pm • Last Updated Jun 11 2014 05:03 pm

House Speaker John Boehner says he is not a scientist, so he cannot debate climate change. So I am sure when he goes to the doctor who tells him to take some pills against high blood pressure, he will refuse since he has no medical degree and thus, doesn’t understand the need to do something about his high blood pressure. Maybe that’s why he still smokes, since the science behind tobacco use and health is not settled either. At least he is consistent in his ignorance.

Personally, I am sure he understands the basic science behind climate change, but, being in the pocket of various industrial interests, he cannot say so openly. With very few exceptions, the entire GOP and many Dems as well stick their collective head in the sand thanks to very generous "donations" to their campaign funds while in office, and lucrative lobbyist jobs after they leave office. This is a cause and effect equation they understand very well.
