While doing some research in old Tribunes, a headline caught my eye. "Let’s Upgrade Medicaid to Help the Working Poor."
In the article the author mentions several reasons in favor of this upgrade. "The working poor cannot afford decent health care. ... Working poor typically work part-time, seasonal or low paying jobs. ... Working poor do not qualify for Medicaid under the current rules. ... The situation can be remedied quite easily by the (State) legislature during the current budget session."
You might think that I was looking through a recent newspaper? You’d be wrong!
The paper was from Jan. 20, 1974, and the author was William "Bill" Biggs for the Common Carrier section of the paper. I was shocked that after all these years the issues had not changed. Becky Lockhart and the rest of the ‘do nothing’ Republican legislature say they need more time to do additional research on such an important issue.
Well, Becky, after 40 years I don’t think anyone is going to accuse the Utah legislature of moving too fast! The more I watch the shenanigans up on Capitol Hill the better I feel about voting a straight Democratic ballot for state officials. I didn’t help elect that circus on the hill and those are not my monkeys.
