Letter: Mero’s arguments weak
First Published May 28 2014 03:24 pm • Last Updated May 28 2014 03:24 pm

Paul Mero published an opinion piece on May 27 regarding same sex marriage. I have a number of objections to that piece:

1) What is "ordered liberty"? Who, exactly gives the orders? Might it be George Orwell, perhaps?

2) From a history of the Sutherland Institute, I would find it hard to accept your characterization of yourselves as "the rest of us who value the democratic process." I have seen over the years, very little evidence that the Sutherland Institute has anything but contempt for the democratic process.

3) I object to the assertion that man/woman parenting is proven to be a superior option. If you have information to that effect, perhaps you could share it.

4) I object to the assertion that same sex marriage is tantamount to "cultural suicide," but again, if you are privy to credible information in that regard, please share it.

A high school student could, in all likelihood, produce a better reasoned offering. Asserting some things are true, and making credible arguments that certain things are true, are two very different things. Mr. Mero, does Sutherland pay you much for these opinion pieces? If so, may I venture to say they are not getting their money’s worth.
