Re: Mel Morris’s letter ("Tired of being lied to," May 13). He is right about two things: President Obama’s lack of transparency and George Bush never just lied about a video.
Bush and his minions’ gross exaggeration and misrepresentation and outright lies (on television and at the U.N.) about evidence of weapons of mass destruction and al-Qaeda in Iraq were much more egregious. The Bush administration’s lies and half truths only directly resulted in the deaths of more than 4,000 American citizens, the maiming of tens of thousands more, the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi citizens and the useless expenditure of hundreds of billions of our taxpayers dollars.
How about ignoring intelligence on terrorist activity prior to 9/11 that might have averted that tragedy? The families of all those victims are still waiting for an explanation. Where was your Republican Party outrage and endless congressional inquiries into that conduct?
I think I get your "logic." No harm, no foul, if the mistakes, lying and misconduct occur before the tragedy or if it’s done by Presidents Reagan or Bush.
