Letter: The Tribune has already been sold
First Published May 16 2014 03:40 pm • Last Updated May 16 2014 03:40 pm

Tribune Editor and Publisher Terry Orme asked a rhetorical question in Sunday’s edition ("Who should own The Salt Lake Tribune?" May 11) before he gave the answer. To wit: "Is the Tribune even for sale?"

And the correct answer is: No. It’s already been sold!

By giving the Deseret News the power to approve or reject any potential buyer of the Tribune, the owners have effectively taken it out of play.

After already selling the physical assets (or most of them), what remains is probably not very valuable in any business sense anyway. Nobody will buy a money-losing cash flow-negative entity without a strategy for survival, unless it’s the Washington Post.

I knew when you terminated "News of the Weird" your days were numbered
