Letter: GOP has nothing to offer but Democrat-bashing
First Published May 14 2014 01:01 pm • Last Updated May 15 2014 10:06 am

I worked in sales for many years, and when I visited my customers, I found that some of my competitors, rather than extolling the virtues of their products, spent their time bashing my products.

Ultimately, that tactic backfired, because my customers tired of the negativity, and learned nothing of the competitors’ products. I also had the opportunity to debunk my competitors’ contentions, or occasionally address issues my company hadn’t uncovered. My competition often became one of our most effective marketing tools. When asked, I resisted the temptation to bash my competition.

Listening to today’s GOP, and the Tea Party faction, it’s "déjà vu all over again." Their bashing of Democratic programs such as Obamacare, without presenting a viable alternative, is beginning to backfire, as millions of Americans gain access to health care and the program gains acceptance across the country.

Listening to the GOP candidates nationwide and in Congress, their chief agenda seems to be to attack Democrats by bashing them on trumped-up "scandals" like Benghazi, the IRS, Fast and Furious and others. In the meanwhile, they spend almost no time talking up the virtues of what they have to offer.

Thank you conservatives. We appreciate your help!
