Letter: Why is this legal and not that?
First Published May 13 2014 03:57 pm • Last Updated May 13 2014 03:57 pm

While I was reading the morning paper, my wife was telling me about a friend of hers who was suffering through cancer. The only thing that could control the nausea was marijuana.

A month ago a service person came to fix a plumbing problem, noticed the pot and notified the authorities. Now, after hundreds of dollars of attorney fees, and days off work, in court, she is on probation (not to mention can’t hold food down).

As that was being related, I noticed an article about a driver, suspected of drunk driving, who triggered a fatal six-car crash. Ruined six cars, killed a mother and critically injured her young daughter, who has many years of therapy ahead.

Can anyone explain why one of these substances is legal, and one is illegal?
