I've long maintained a Republican politician's definition of success is to hope the other side fails. Now, with the latest Benghazi e-mails ("House GOP to select committee on Benghazi attack," Tribune, May 3), the party and its base have been given a new set of Lego blocks to distract them while the nation, and the world, focuses on more pressing issues.

The speculation, mistakes and lessons learned will never override the tragic loss of four fellow Americans. The conscious decision to disrupt the lives of thousands of government employees and fellow Americans, costing the nation billions, just to make a political point should also not be forgotten.

I hope both topics are discussed at length during the upcoming election cycles.
