Just a thought regarding the theatergoer who was unhappy she did not receive prior warning of a gay kiss in the current production of "Deathtrap" at Pioneer Memorial Theater ("Onstage gay kiss ‘repulsive,’ Salt Lake theatergoer complains," Tribune, April 7):
You wasted a teaching moment. Obviously, we can’t shield our children from everything they will come across in their daily lives. Wouldn’t it have been a better approach to use the opportunity to discuss your values with him?
It would be a great parenting moment to maybe help him understand the world, and to be able to fit what he experiences into his value set. Now the only values you have taught your son are fear, disgust and hatred.
I hope for the sake of both you and your son that he is not gay, is not related to anyone who is gay and has no friends who are gay, because you have not modeled for him a reasonable approach to those who are gay.
