I am politely requesting that the sisters of Ordain Women do not try to gain admission to the LDS priesthood session Saturday ("Mormon women seeking priesthood may be blocked from Temple Square," Tribune, March 27).
This is not the best approach to seeking ordination. Only through divine revelation will that change occur.
For me and many other men, the priesthood session is the highlight of each LDS General Conference. Certainly the messages are inspired and are relevant to each of us as Latter-day Saints. This session, however, is important for an additional reason. It is the chance to worship with men and men alone.
These two hours each spring and fall are the only times we all come together and learn what it means to be a "real man." This only happens as a gathering of men. We love worshiping with our spouses, partners and children — and nothing makes us prouder or happier. Still, men need sacred time alone with other men.
This does not occur at a Scout camp, the golf course, or even in our weekly group or quorum meetings; it only occurs to this degree during the priesthood session. Please allow us these two hours to learn and grow as men with other men.
