Letter: Caucus system gave us Lee, Swallow; destroy it
First Published Mar 22 2014 01:01 am • Last Updated Mar 22 2014 01:01 am

Re the "compromise" on the Count My Vote initiative: This new alternative system is a step forward, but it is not enough ("Deal on Count My Vote gets lawmakers’ OK, sent to gov," Tribune, March 5).

Any system that gives us Mike Lee and John Swallow needs to be thrown out in its entirety. A new system should be constructed from the ground up, with strong built-in safeguards to ensure that fools (Lee) and felons (Swallow) can no longer be appointed by the few to high office.

When the few choose for the many, these jokers are the inevitable result.

Democracy subjected to such "compromise" is to the detriment of us all. Burn the caucus system to the ground and start over.
