Letter: LDS Church should ordain women
First Published Mar 21 2014 01:01 am • Last Updated Mar 21 2014 01:01 am

As a fifth-generation Utahn and great-great-grandson of LDS Church President John Taylor, I’ve taken a great interest in recent articles, surveys (New York Times) and other reportage on the enhanced role of women in the LDS Church.

Women wanting the priesthood will not be allowed to demonstrate in Temple Square ("Mormon women seeking priesthood may be blocked from Temple Square," Tribune, March 17). Their presence would somehow deprive the setting of its sacred import and the brethren upstairs of their autocratic peace of mind.

I fully support ordination of women to perform any and all sacraments men claim, and I believe, from papers by John Taylor I have read, that he would, too. After admitting black men to the priesthood in 1978, this must be the next "revelation" of the First Presidency, astride its $40 billion, which approaches the Catholic Church — the LDS "adversary" — in riches stored up in this life, not the next.
