Congratulations to the Utah Opera and Utah Symphony on their current production of Puccini’s "Turandot." My wife Julia and I were moved by the high level of artistry of the soloists, chorus and players, and the bold artistic direction that cleverly illuminated this exotic tale of love.
The beautifully inspired sets, fantastic choreography and glorious costumes made for a sumptuous visual treat. We applaud Utah Opera for presenting a notoriously difficult opera in such a grand and glorious manner and congratulate everybody who worked so hard to present us with this world-class event! This production was shared with companies in Seattle, Minnesota and Pittsburgh and provides a wonderful example of a cooperative effort to provide high-quality experiences for a larger audience.
It takes a small army to mount a production such as "Turandot," and, as the "general" of that army, Christopher McBeth deserves special kudos for his bold, innovative and creative leadership. As a community, we in Utah are fortunate to have the opportunity to enjoy such first-class live arts events that enrich our lives right here in our own back yard. Bravi tutti!
